Fairbanks Community Food Bank

So, I have actually been here for over a week! I've gotten used to the time and the long amount of daylight Fairbanks has in the summer. I have been enjoying living here with my grandparents and have been fairly busy. For instance, I have been volunteering at the Fairbanks Community Food Bank. My grandma is the manager for the volunteers there so I've been able to help out.

Basically, the volunteers get to package food for people who need it.

Stores give their excess of food to the food bank. People can also donate as well!

And here is where they handle the produce.

This is where the volunteers go to package the food. They print out an order from the computer, then grab a couple boxes, plus a pre-pack that has a suitable amount for the number of people in a family. Some of the volunteers make the pre-packs while others pack foods for families that need food.

The orders that we print says the number of people in the family, and their age. We then pick foods we think are appropriate for the family we are packing food for. When we are done, we weigh the boxes of food that we have packed to make sure we packed the write amount. There is a chart that says how much the food should weigh for the number of people per family.
Ex. : Singles- 20-25 Pounds.

So these are photos my mom took of me packing food.

Here is the lobby area.
Through the window is the kitchen, where we eat lunch.

People volunteer to make lunch for the workers in the food bank. Isn't that nice?

And that's the food bank!
